To All PIRB Professional Registered Plumbers
RE: A MONUMENTAL ACHIEVEMENT FOR SOUTH AFRICA’S PLUMBING INDUSTRY. RECOGNITION, REGULATION, AND A NEW ERA OF PROFESSIONALISM
The plumbing industry in South Africa has reached a defining moment.
After extensive engagement and collaboration across the sector, we are proud to confirm that the regulatory process to amend the Pressure Equipment Regulations (PER) has been completed.
This change is more than just a regulatory update, it is a powerful affirmation of what we have always known: you, the professional plumber, and more importantly our trade, are essential to the health, safety, and wellbeing of our nation.
This achievement is the result of strong collaboration across industry associations and key stakeholders, all aligned in a shared commitment to uplift and professionalise our sector. It marks a historic step forward and the beginning of a new chapter for plumbing in South Africa.
So, what does this mean for you — the PIRB Professional Registered plumber?
The amended regulations will move towards promulgation. As this process unfolds, it’s important to know that PIRB’s, a registered SAQA Professional Body, administration systems of professional registration, auditing, and compliance remain fully in place.
These systems, which have supported the South African professional plumbing community for more than15 years, are now more relevant than ever, as they align with the direction of the new regulatory framework.
For PIRB Professional registered plumbers, this means it’s more than just business as usual, it’s continued recognition, credibility, and readiness to meet the future.
This achievement affirms the value of professionalism, accountability, and trusted practice, the very principles that PIRB has upheld and championed since its inception, and that you, as a professional plumber, have come to know, trust, and live by in your daily work.
We thank every registered plumber, industry partner, and stakeholder. Your dedication, steadfastness, and commitment to PIRB have brought us to this moment.
And as we step forward together, know that the best is yet to come.
