How to make your plumbing business stand out from the rest

Plumbing businesses regularly juggle a lot of jobs.

And with a whole lot of competition out there, how does one stand out?

Here are four ways that you can beat the competition.

1. Incorporate unique branding and be consistent

An article for Plumber Magazine states that all branding – like a company’s motto and business logo – should appear the same across their website, print advertising materials, email messages and invoices.

If you’re on social media (and you should be as a lot of people tend to Google before they call), use your logo as the profile photo so followers know immediately who and what your business is. The most effective messages on social media are ones that are creative, informative and to the point.

Once you have figured out the nuances of social media, it will become a very important tool and play a vital role in your brand marketing.

Current customers and potential clients are bombarded with images and messages from many different sources, so the goal should always be to make it easy for them to identify you. Attention spans are short. They need — and want — to know right away how you can help them.

2. Stay Positive

Ask for positive reinforcement. Now is not the time to be too proud to ask for help. Repeat customers ultimately chose you for a reason. So, ask them to send you a few reasons why they chose your company and how your crew is performing.

The positive comments will help reassure you that your hard work is recognized.

3. Become technologically advanced

The future is technology!

  • Stay ahead of other plumbing businesses by researching industry innovations. Are there options available today that could help you streamline operations?
  • You can even pull your bookkeeping out of the Stone Age and invest in accounting systems to modernize your operation and leave the paperwork to the competition.
  • Research smartphone apps that can help you in some way or another.

4. Make sure your CPD credits are up to date

The PIRB Certificate of Compliance (COC) system is an important legality when it comes to plumbing work in South Africa.

When a registered plumber with the Plumbing Industry Registration Board (PIRB) does not stay up to date and accumulate the necessary Continuous Professional Development (CPD) credits that he or she needs for the year, the chances of losing work is a huge probability. Without obtaining your CPD credits, a plumber will be demoted to a qualified plumber on the PIRB system and ultimately won’t be able to issue COC’s.

Customers rely on accountability when hiring a plumber, so make sure you have the necessary credits to stay ahead of your competition.
